Operational reporting is essential to run day to day operations of a business. These reports usually include individual transactions at the very granular level detail to support the ongoing operations of a system. Operational reporting can run directly on the operational systems since the operational systems contain individual transactions at the granular level. However a separate repository, Operational Data Store (ODS), may need to be build when there is a need to integrate data from multiple systems and/or when the packaged operational systems like CRM, SCM and ERP systems may not be able to support all the operational reporting needs.
