Tactical reporting is intended for monitoring and responding quickly to variety of short term situations. The short term period may vary from one business to another depending on the nature of the business. Tactical reports are analytical in nature and may require complex data analysis including past trends (OLAP)
The data must be stable over the time frame of days or weeks required for tactical analysis, so that results will be consistent across reports from various perspectives. This kind of analysis cannot be performed on operational data, thus, integrated Data Warehousing and Data Marts are build to support the performance intensive analytical reporting needs.
The industry offers two types of data storage for the multi-dimensional analysis, ROLAP (Relational OLAP) and MOLAP (Multi-dimensional OLAP).
